"Adventures in Babysitting" 1987

“Adventures In Babysitting”

Chris Parker has a big date with boyfriend. He’s taking her to a fancy French restaurant and she is wearing a pretty new dress. She dances around her bedroom as she gets ready. Then the phone rings and suddenly Chris is available to babysit.

Mrs. Parker: That was Mrs. Anderson, she wants to know if you can babysit tonight.
Chris: No, tell her I can't.
Mrs. Parker: Why not?
Chris: Because I want to sit at home and be depressed.
Brenda: Oh, sit for the Andersons, that'll depress anyone.
Chris: Mom, I'm too old to babysit.

Elisabeth Shue is Chris Parker. It’s her birthday today.
So she goes to the house of Sara and Brad. Brad’s friend Daryl decides to stay over when he sees that Chris is there for the night. He has a Playboy magazine with a centerfold that bears a remarkable resemblance to the babysitter.

Not long after Chris’ best friend runs away from home and is stranded at the bus station and has lost her glasses. Brenda changes her mind soon after arrival.
[in a telephone booth in the bus station]
Brenda: Chris I'm begging you, it's really scary here. I've just seen three people shoot up, a bald Chinese lady with no pants on, and there's this old guy outside who wants his bedroom slippers!
Old Man: [banging on telephone booth] Get out of my house!
Brenda: [kicks out a small box and the guy's slippers] You just moved!

This sets Chris and the kids off to rescue Brenda in downtown Chicago. Then a blown tire, a bad tow and a car jacking set of a chain of events that lead them to the underworld of crime and Mafia.

It is a lot of fun. When I saw “Date Movie” last year, it was like a grown up remake. They even have a scene on a subway and on a roof.

It is a fun eighties movie. It has adventures, hence the title. There is sweetness, a little romance and lots of fun.

Gang Leader: Don't f**k with the Lords of Hell.
[Chris picks up the knife and shoves it in the gang leader's face]
Chris: Don't f**k with the babysitter.

Happy Birthday Elisabeth Shue. Hope to see you soon.

I was tired on this one and just kind of phoned it in. I'll do better next time. But hey, they can't all be gold!
